Modernize Food Safety and/or Traceability Systems

PURPOSE

The project supports small to medium meat processing businesses seeking to modernize their food safety systems and/or adopt new food safety and traceability systems.

Businesses can receive support to:

  • Determine and validate food safety risks
  • Strengthen capacity to adopt protection and assurance systems that mitigate risks
  • Train existing employees on food safety systems
  • Improve public trust while growing their businesses

This support is available to provincially licensed meat processing businesses located in Ontario.

WHAT YOU CAN RECEIVE

Implementation Support
– Up to 100% of costs, max $30,000, paid directly to third-party vendors for the implementation of a third-party audited food safety system of their choosing and/or adopt new food safety and traceability systems.

HOW IT WORKS

Prepare – Review requirements, gather vendor quotes, confirm qualifications
Complete Expression of Interest Form – Attach documents, submit when intake opens October 2025
Assessment – Reviewed by MPO on first-come basis
Decision & Next Steps – Confirmation letter, contract signing, final claim/report
